HIPPA

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act passed by Congress in 1986 stipulates under what circumstances your health information (PHI) can be shared or disclosed. For more detail please see the Center for Medicare Services website at www.cms.hhs.gov/hipaa. HIPAA involves three main areas: protected health information, electronic transaction standards, and electronic and paper media security standards.

A quick summary: I am required to protect PHI that I have received or created. You also have the right to have a copy of your PHI, and to request changes if you believe it is wrong or incomplete. All electronic transactions that I conduct or that are conducted by my intermediaries are HIPAA compliant. Finally, my electronic and paper records security meet HIPAA requirements. I secure records, both paper records and electronic records, under double lock and key at my office sight and at my off sight records storage facility. I will provide you with copies of my policies concerning HIPAA practices at your request.
